JACOB ADAMS
PLAY BY: Sean Paul Lockhart
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 19
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Homosexual, but while he personally prefers men, he'll flirt with, and sleep with, anyone if there's something in it for him. Sometimes even if its just to keep people around.
POSITION: Stripper♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 5' 7"
HAIR COLOR: Brown
EYE COLOR: Brown
MISC: Has a tatoo on the side of his butt in the shape of a star, a very inspired drunken endevour. In other words, he woke up with it one day and decided he had no other choice than to roll with it. Sometimes he makes up stories about why he got it (“Cause I'm going to Hollywood to become a STAR!!”, “Cause my ass is the end of the universe”, or something of the sort, depending on mood and current level of creativity), but he really has no clue.
Other than that, nothing about his appearance really sticks out, other than he's short and usually a bit scrawny, making him seem small in general. Still, the smaller ones tend to bark the loudest..
His clothing depends on where he's going, of course, but generally he dresses to blend in. If he needs the attention, he'll make sure to get it some other way.
Being from a small town in Mississippi, he sometimes "slips up" and speaks, according to himself, "Like an inbred farmer". In other words, he has a dialect and he's only almost okay with it.
PERSONALITY: Jake can be a bit all over the place, whether he's happy, sad or pissed off, he has a habit of acting first and thinking later. Generally he comes across as pretty happy-go-lucky, unless you manage to catch him at a bad time. He rarely bothers to cover up his feelings, unless he really really needs to. On the other hand, he has trouble accepting the fact that not everyone can love him; which sometimes causes him to change slightly in the direction he thinks the other person wants him to. Then again, it doesn't take too long for Jake to get attached to people, and when he does, he cares a lot. When you've gotten to know Jake enough to call him your friend, you've probably already been on his BFF-list for half a year. Generally, he treats strangers like he's known them for years.
Jake hates being alone, and would rather spend his day with someone he hates than be by his lonesome. While this makes it easy for him to get make new friends, it can just as easily make him come off as clingy as crap. Unless stopped, he can talk on and on about nothing for hours without a thought about how annoying he can be. He thinks he's aware of his sometimes-less-than-charming sides, and able to tone himself down, but sometimes it just doesn't happen.
In the spirit of using his powers of logic way too seldom, he often speaks out when the smart thing to do would probably be to shut up. He's been known to get himself into fights with people way bigger than himself, over things of varying importance. While he's not exactly aggressive himself, he doesn't back down from a fight, which almost never turn out in his favour. It's been pointed out to him before, he's working on it, once again, with varying success. Either way, his impulsiveness is one of the things that can easily end up making him enemies.
Considering his past, he has a “funny” way of looking at sexual relationships, mostly as a way of getting what he wants. Not only will he trade almost anything for sex, he sometimes assumes thats what he needs to do to pay his dues in life. After all, he doesn't exactly have any other kind of education or skill, at least not according to himself. He can dream of a meet-cute soulmate-type of relationship all he wants, but in the end he knows he'll probably accidentally piss all over it by acting like, well, a hooker. Such is the life.
Having been openly gay (according to everyone else, at least) in a small, pretty christian town, he's not overly impressed with religion. He tries to stay openminded to it as he realises there are nice christian people, too, not to mention Christianity isn't the only religion when you get out of the town he grew up in, but he still catches himself on guard when people tell him they're Christian or even religious in general.
SECRET(S): Jake is more or less an open book. Considering what he does for a living, he finds it easier to just be blunt and honest, instead of lying, having to tell the truth eventually, and end up loosing a friend instead of an acquaintance. His problem is more in the oversharing-department.♦ THE HISTORY ♦
Gerold and Lily met at a resturant in Jackson, Mississippi, where Lily worked. Gerold was there a lot with his friends, mostly because they also had a liqour license, and since both him and his friends were alcoholics it seemed like a good place to go without constantly being at the bar. Gerold had had alcohol problems for pretty much all of his adult life. Lily came from a pretty ordinary family, with a little above average income, and hadn't really been close to any major problems during her life. They fell in love, and after a few difficult years Gerold was completely sober. They decided to have a child and Jake was born.
He grew up in a loving household, in a rental house in a small town near Jackson. Even if they were always pretty poor, and he had a good life up until he was 8 years old, when his mom got sick from cancer and died shortly after. This sent his dad right back into his alcoholism, which just seemed to get worse and worse. Eventually he lost his job, and Jake had to find ways to pay the bills, not to mention his dads alcohol habits. By the age of 14 Jake was making all of their money by selling himself, gradually working himself into the shadier parts of the Jackson nightlife. The lifestyle became a bigger part of him than he'd like to admit, and he spent less and less time at home. By the time he was 18, he was barely there anymore.
Having dropped out of school after failing the first year of high school twice, he was also beginning to realize the apple might not fall very far from the tree, so to speak. He was drinking a lot, and drugs weren't uncommon either. He still doesn't like to admit he had an actual problem, but he was aware that he was rapidly developing one, and so decided to flee the scene completely, leaving his dad in Mississippi to get away from the whole situation, eventually ending up in California. While it solved exactly zero of his problems, at least he managed to stay far away from the drugscene to eventually land a job as a stripper instead. He still sends his dad money from time to time to make sure he doesn't self-destruct completely, but avoids as much contact with him as he can. While he still wants to help, he feels like he may be doing more harm than good.
He still parties more than he probably should, but tries to stay as honest as he can to himself, determined not to end up like his dad while at the same time realising he's not always doing a kickass job with avoiding it. Nowadays, he figures if he can keep himself looking good enough to keep his job, it can't be that bad of a problem, right?♦ THE PLAYER ♦
