He was hungry and this place was lovely. There wasn't much mystery why he ended up in this place again. It was pretty packed but he needed a snack, so he waited his turn as patiently as he could. Finally he was picked and hurried to his table quick. He was eager to eat even if he was alone this time.
Sitting by himself, he had to look around. He wasn't going to let anything get him down. The day was great and he was content to spend it easy. The menu came into mind but he didn't need any time since he knew what he'd pick anyways. The place was famous for a dish so he didn't need to fish around the options very much at all.
When the waiter came by, he got that gleam in his eye. A wide grin grew on his face in eagerness. "Hello there." He greeted with ease. He was pretty pleased he'd gotten someone to come over so fast.

The thing Erika enjoyed the most about her job was that she got the chance to meet so many different and interesting people. And when things were calm, she could even allow herself the time to chat them up. Not everyone was as friendly and outgoing, but she liked to believe that she'd picked up on the various vibes people carried, so it was easy to spot out who wished to be left alone and who wished to have a friendly conversation.
A man sat down at one of her tables and Erika walked over, menu and notebook in hand. A pen was tucked nicely behind her ear and she greeted the man with the same kind of smile he himself carried. "Good day, sir," she greeted him in turn. She studied him for a brief moment; he was handsome, in a very nontraditional kind of way and she immediately decided that she liked him.
She offered him the menu then, placing it on the table in front of him. "Do you want a few moments to look over the menu or would you like to order right away?"
Once she came over to him, his eyes flicked to her name. He was hoping this "Erika" could grab her food pretty fast. She offered him the menu, but he didn't even have to view. He shook his head and pushed it back towards her with a wider grin. "Thank you miss, but I know exactly what I need." He gave her a smile, hoping he'd been polite.
"I'd like a batch of your finest waffles, please." Even mentioning it set his mouth slightly watering. Not enough to notice, but enough to let him know he was hungry. "Might want to make that a double proportion actually." He couldn't help but chuckle. He was a pretty big guy. A fact he wouldn't shy from even if it got some looks from the other patrons. He was here to eat, and he wouldn't retreat before he got what he came for in full.

A warm smile spread over Erika's lips; It always made her happy to see people who came in, already knowing the menu more or less by heart, but even better than that was the people who came here to order the same thing over and over again. Chuckling softly, Erika took the menu back and placed it underneath her notepad. She scribbled his order down before pursing her lips. "Do you want anything to drink as well?"
The waffles were delicious; She had to agree with that much, though the young brunette wasn't really one for sweeter things. She preferred salty, though sour came at the very bottom of the list of things she enjoyed. Heck, Susie wouldn't even share her recipe when it came to her famous waffles. Erika supposed she couldn't really blame her.

He was met with a smile, and a warm one at that. It made his trip more worthwhile having a good waiter too. "I'll just have water for now, thank you." He didn't need that much. He wasn't there to make a fuss. All he wanted was a meal he loved to eat. Although his current company seemed kind so he really wouldn't mind chatting with her while he had to wait.
"I've got to ask if you don't mind; Does Susie share her recipe with all the employees? Or only the cooks?" He had to ask. He didn't expect that was the case, but still he'd chase the hope that someone might know what made it so good. Although he wouldn't press since that sort of pressure might make a mess. Besides the secrecy only made it more fun.

"Waffles and water," she repeated, more so to herself than for clarification. It was a simple order, but not one she would argue with. If it hadn't been for the fact that she'd eaten Susie's waffles so often, she probably would have done so during her lunch. Sadly, Erika had started eating them as soon as she started working there and had quickly grown bored.
Another chuckle fell from the brunette's lips as she leaned in, as if to whisper. "She doesn't even share it with the cooks," she began, rolling her eyes as a smile played on her lips. "She gets up early every morning to make the batch before the rest of us get here, so no one really knows what's in it." She couldn't blame him for asking. She too, had wondered the exact same thing and had tried her best to lure the recipe out of the old woman, but to no avail.
When she leaned in to speak he felt like such a sneak, but he couldn't help but smile and laugh. He hadn't thought to expect much so there wasn't much to regret. He had to ask even though he knew it wouldn't go anywhere. "Now that is the sign of one determined woman." He replied with some admiration in his tone. He could understand holding close something owned.
"What if that means it's something terrible?" He "whispered" back, as if conspiratorially. "Maybe it's something illegal, like the original Coca Cola thing. Or it could be something disgusting or unconventional like hair gel. Or what if, worst of all, it was nothing all along and she's been fooling everyone for years!"
It was all for play, as his tone would convey. He was having some fun since the waitress decided to stay. Even if it was only for a bit, he'd make use of it for a conversation before he ate. "If it was the last thing, I'd honestly be impressed more than anything!"

"Tell me about it," Erika snorted. Still, she couldn't help but to smile fondly. In many ways, she actually respected the determined and stubborn way the older woman carried herself. She didn't take shit from anyone, despite her old age.
Biting down a laugh, Erika shrugged her shoulders. She wasn't sure she really cared. "Does it really matter in the end? I mean, whatever's in there makes the waffles taste divine." She was fine with being left in the dark. Or rather, she had been when she'd been eating the waffles unstoppable. She had quickly learned not to question the good things in life.
"I wouldn't put it past her," Erika replied honestly as she smiled warmly. "I'll be right back with your waffles," she then added with a wink as she started moving towards the kitchen. A new batch had already been made, so getting the man's order quickly wasn't much of an issue. Placing his order on a carry-tray, Erika stalked right back, after, of course, making sure that Susie knew she had a fan.
"Here you go," she said as she placed the waffles in front of him. "Susie told me to say hey," she winked at him.
