The end of summer and his last year of high school was drawing closer and although Nick was eager to start football again, he didn't quite feel ready to give up his summer break just yet. It felt as if time had flown away in the matter of seconds - had it really been weeks? Sighing to himself as he strolled through the park, a hand came up to push his damp hair away from his forehead.
Most of his friends had gone off to the beach and he was supposed to join, but due to a late night with gaming with his younger brother, Nicholas had managed to oversleep and well, here he was, all by his lonesome, wondering how on earth he could have slept through seven missed calls.
Naturally, he could have joined them later, but his mother needed the car for shopping and he was far too lazy to get a job so he could afford one on his own.
Well, that and the fact that he wanted to put all his time and energy into football.
Seeing someone that resembled fun, he jogged over, waving his arms to get their attention as he called out, "Hey, yo! You up for some fun?" He realized then how inappropriate that sounded and stopped mid-step, frowning.
Few things caught him off guard anymore. This was almost the exception that confirmed the rule. Almost. He looked confused for a while, looking at the guy in front of him, trying to think of... what the hell. Drug dealer? … hooker? No, a hooker wouldn't walk up to him, surely he didn't look that desperate... today. The only connection his somewhat tired brain could think of was, someone had told on him, and this guy was, quite openly, looking for a hooker for himself. Still, why would he approach him in a freaking park? Had he been stalking him? No, this was something else.. maybe just an honest mistake. Still, would be a lot funnier if it wasn't, right?
“What're you, like, 15? Put it back in your trousers, love, you're too young for me.” he realised he was exhaggerating for dramatic effect. But suggesting that the guy who must be at least an inch taller than him was a kid amused him. Yes, he realised that wasn't what this was about at all. In fact, the amused smile on his face probably gave that away. If he'd thought, honestly, that the guy was implying something, he would have reacted.. differently. Still, if he was going to get startled in the middle of the freaking park, he wasn't going to reply with a weak 'hi'.

Nicholas frowned slightly at the manner of which the other boy had responded. He found himself at a loss of words, but rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly before he cleared his throat. He wanted to call the boy out for being conceited, though decided against it. Nowadays, people got too easily offended by everything. It wasn't worth the hassle and today wasn't a day Nick wanted to get into a fight.
"Right," he said, pursing his lips. "That wasn't what I meant," he quickly added. He jerked his thumb over his back, gesturing towards the frisbee golf getup a few yards away. "I need a partner," he added, still feeling slightly awkward, though tried his best not to show it.
Man, he'd lived for this kind of stuff when he was still in high school. Of course, there had been a slightly more.. violent tendency with the jocks in his school, than what this guy seemed to be willing to hand out. He almost felt bad. Almost. Still, he looked more amused than ever when the poor guy explained himself, nodding slowly, although he made a point of not looking very convinced. At least he was nice enough to control himself when the other guy said he needed a 'partner'. And it took a lot of self control. Honestly, it probably showed how much he was trying not to say something suggestive. The only reason he even bothered was that, well, of course he'd rather stand around and play... whatever that was, with whoever this was, than walk around alone. So, he decided to play nice, for once.
“And you picked me? Wow, you aren't looking for a challenge today, are you?” he said instead, laughing slightly. He didn't really look like the sporty type, after all. At least he didn't think he did. He supposed he could take it as a compliment. “I'm game. Although you might need to teach me. I've only ever gotten them thrown in the back of my head before.” Now that he was done messing with the kid, at least for now, he fell right into his usual, cheery smile. Wasn't every day that someone walked right up to him and started talking, after all. Saved him a lot of work, seeing as he would probably have ended up doing more or less the same thing within a few hours.
