What better way for Karliah to spend her day off than going to bother Rebekka on her day off? Really the notion had jumped into her head the moment she figured it out. So without much fuss she headed off towards the grumpy woman's home.
Without giving her any warning of course.
Not that Karliah figured she'd need it. Whether or not Rebekka was happy to see her, she was coming in. So she only sort of knocked on the door before opening it wide. "Honey I'm home!" She sang while barging in. She'd been in the house enough to be familiar with it. Hell, she might as well be family! At least the little ones agreed. "We eating anything? Because I'm starving."

Days off were a rare and very appreciated treat. So Rebekka took full advantage of the fact in order to sleep in. She'd woken up naturally closer to noon, and dragged herself out of bed feeling refreshed. Now that just left the rest of the day. What should she do? Immediately she thought about the twins. Spending dedicated time with the two was rare for her. This could be the perfect day to go out together to do something fun. Rebekka had to smile a little at the thought while making breakfast for herself.
But then of course she heard an all too familiar voice call from the front of the house. Rebekka rolled her eyes and didn't bother leaving the kitchen. Karliah Crowley. One of the rare people Rebekka could actually consider a friend. She even dared to think the blonde was the closest thing to a "best friend" Rebekka could ever have. Not that she'd ever admit that out loud. "Make your own damn food, you freeloader." Rebekka called back with a smirk, focusing on making her eggs. She was actually putting some effort into her meal. That was unusual. "You're about as bad as the Jehovah's Witnesses."

She followed the answering voice after she shut the door. With an expression of mock hurt mixed with a scowl, Karliah pulled out a nearby chair and plopped down on it. "Freeloader? I'll have you know I do very important work around this house." Karliah tilted her chin up. "It's called 'entertaining the kids so they don't run you down.' You wouldn't survive without it."
Speaking of which, where were the little guys? Karliah glanced around but couldn't find them. So she looked back at Rebekka. With the occasional glance at the delicious smelling food she was making. She was definitely stealing a piece. "Where are the kiddos, Bekka? I need to tell them all about our lord and savior: Chthulu." Now she was grinning.

There was a screech of a chair moving. Which meant Karliah had come into the kitchen whether Rebekka wanted her to or not. The smirk one her face only grew while she glanced back at the blonde officer. Confident little thing. "Here's hoping they end up running you down instead." She responded with a snicker. In all honesty she was a bit thankful for Karliah getting along well with her younger siblings. It made the family feel a little more whole. Lord knew they needed that.
"Oh no you don't." Rebekka replied, pointing at Karliah with the spatula. "Don't you go putting that kind of crazy sh- crap in their heads." She caught herself before swearing. She really needed to get better at that. Sometimes she slipped, and her grandmother would give her the look of disapproval. "But I'm pretty sure they're watching the tv with Gran." She added, gesturing with her head to the other room. It was a common occurance.

Karliah snickered when Rebekka caught herself from swearing. Although admittedly she had to do the same thing. "Better watch that potty mouth, Bekka." Wasn't that the pot calling the kettle black? "You don't want to taint them." Although the twins probably heard swearing just about everywhere else. It was life; People swore and evil happened. So on and so forth.
"Hey so I was thinking..." She leaned back into her chair. "How about we go on a little field trip for the day? You know I've got nothing and no one to do today. How about we take the twins out and catch a movie? Something. Anything." Karliah was bored. Was it painfully obvious? Besides, she like spending time with the twins. They were like her own little siblings.

She better watch her potty mouth? Rebekka turned her head and treated Karliah to a scowl. "I don't want to hear it from miss 'swears-a-lot' over there. You can put sailors to shame." She replied. Rebekka had seen firsthand what an angry, drunk enough Karliah sounded like. Needless to say they'd gotten out of the bar before any other cops showed up. But the brawl that erupted had left the little scar on Rebekka's right cheek as a reminder.
She turned back to her cooking but had to double-take when Karliah made her suggestions. Had she read Rebekka's mind from earlier? Eyeing the other woman, she slid her eggs off onto her plate. "I was planning on doing that today anyways. I guess you can tag along." She responded. It wasn't like Karliah was going to give her a choice anyways. She'd probably "appear" in the same area mysteriously.
Rebekka turn off the stove and headed over to the table. "No one to do though, huh? What happened to that one recent guy?" She asked between bites of egg and bacon. "The curly haired one. Thought you were going with him."

Karliah just snorted. Then, the moment Rebekka sat down, with perfectly maintained eye contact she stole a strip of bacon and shoved it in her mouth. Stolen food always tasted better, especially when it was fresh.
"You better believe I'm going to tag along. The twins would cry if they found out you said no to me." Karliah bragged playfully. She was basically their second big sister after all, next to Rebekka. Or the cool "mom," although she didn't like the term as much. The twins were the rare exception to Karliah's "I hate all children" rule.
"Oh god." Did they really have to bring up that guy? "Don't even get me started. I dropped that walking bag of disaster the moment I actually learn more about him." Karliah rubbed her face with one hand and reached for another bacon strip with the free one. "The guy was a creep."

Rebekka had hardly lifted a fork when suddenly Karliah's hand lashed out and snatched some of her breakfast. All while maintaining eye contact. She was like a goddamn evil cat. Nonetheless Rebekka grinned. "You little bit- witch." She growled playfully. She didn't mind the theft honestly. Hell, she'd been expecting it. Just not so fast and so soon, apparently. But now she'd be ready.
Rebekka rolled her eyes as she dug into her breakfast. "Don't get so cocky, Karly." She replied after swallowing. Although truth be told the twin likely would be disappointed if the blonde didn't tag along. Whether Rebekka admitted it or not, the blonde police officer had essentially been adopted into the family. Without Rebekka's opinion. But if it had to be anyone, she guessed she was the best for it.
The tone used indicated something was up. Rebekka raised an eyebrow, but noticed the hand snaking back towards her food. She slapped it with her fork even as she listened. "Walking bag of disaster huh?" Rebekka repeated, snickerinG. "Gee, maybe just picking the hot ones isn't always a good idea."

Karliah smiled smugly while she chewed on the bacon. She loved winning. Especially if food was involved. "Hey it's not being cocky if it's the truth." She shrugged off the remark. She knew the kids loved her and figured Rebekka knew as well. It was pretty obvious.
Unfortunately she didn't win with the food again. Pulling her hand back with a rueful look, she scowled and rolled her eyes. "Oh save me the lecture, mom." still, it was probably good advice. "You really expect me to go after the unattractive ones when I want some fun? I've got standards you know." Man that fork smarted. She rubbed the spot idly. "I'm a mature woman who knows what she wants."

Damn she hated it when she was right. She always got that smug look on her face. Rebekka snarled but it soon turned into a grin. She couldn't help but love their odd relationship. Other than her siblings, it was the closest one she had. Which was saying something; Rebekka didn't get close to anyone. Much less let someone barge into her house and steal her breakfast.
Mom? "If I was your mother I would've disciplined the crap out of you." She returned with a snort. "Taught you not to have such a disrespectful mouth." She added. Although that was pretty hypocritical of her considering she wasn't the most respectful person either. Most people would fondly describe Rebekka as a bitch. Or rather, coldly. It probably didn't help her case that she found satisfaction seeing Karliah rub the spot she'd smacked with her fork. She was a twisted sort and knew it.
"Mature? Pffft." Now Rebekka was laughing, the sound a little harsh as always. "Yeah, right. You might know what you want, but I'm not sure about the mature part of that sentence." She taunted.

"If you were my mother I would've learned to be a hell of a lot sneakier." Fortunately her real mother had been the more lax one. Karliah's father had been the strict authority of the house. Came with being a cop dad, she supposed. "Besides, you've got as disrespectful a mouth as I've got. So can it sister."
"And I am mature, thank you very much." Karliah tilted her head up and stared down her nose at Rebekka. "You've barely gone a date anyways. So I don't want to hear any advice coming from you." Now that that was over, she slapped her hand on the table. "Now come on and eat up. I want to get this show on the road." Daylight was burning. "Unless you want to spend more time with me of course." She added with a wide and wicked smirk.

As fun as the banter was, this talk of mothers was starting to irk Rebekka. Reminding her of her own mother was never a good thing. Nor was thinking about her father good either. She did not want to spoil her good mood; they were rare enough as it was. So Rebekka just a rolled her eyes at the comments. Letting it slip by was easy. Anything to get off subject.
Mentioning her love life was a good distraction. Or rather her lack of one. She snorted again. "I don't do romance, long term or hook up. I've gotten to see enough of your mistakes to be scared away forever." She replied. Yeah, relationships were a no. Who would go for someone as volatile and rough as Rebekka anyways? Only sadists and masochists from her guessing. Rebekka would rather not.
"Oh fu- shut up, Karly." Not the best response, but she did have a point. She wanted to make the most of the day, so hurrying up would be best. She pointed with her free hand while eating. "How about you make yourself useful and look up a movie to watch?" She advised. It would get them out of the house faster at least.

Karliah made sure her eyeroll was obvious and dramatic. "That is probably one of the top overly used excuses for not dating." She countered, jabbing a finger in Rebekka's direction. She knew the other woman wasn't for the whole emotional drama of relationships. The fact they were even close friends was a small miracle in and of itself.
But she wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Oh she almost slipped up again. Karliah grinned but got up and headed for the computer. "Yeah yeah." She called idly over her shoulder. On her way Karliah poked her head into the other room with the kids. "Hey kiddos! Go get ready cause we're going to see a movie. No buts." After that she continued her route to computer to look things up. "And wear something that doesn't make you look like a mini hobo!"

Rebekka smacked the pointed finger. What was it about people thinking that to be happy, a relationship needed to be involved? Of course, Karliah was probably just teasing her for it, but that was the general mindset of just about everyone else. The "oh you need a man" or "you're not married yet?" comments could drive Rebekka up a wall. Luckily they stopped when they figured out Rebekka didn't like them. The people normally stuck around her could take a hint.
Again with that damn grin. Rebekka focused on finishing off her meal and taking the plate to the sink. Meanwhile she could hear the kids greet Karliah. They really did think of her as family. And no doubt they were excited from the prospect of going to a movie, if the rapid patter of feet going upstairs told Rebekka anything. She snickered and put the plate and fork in the dishwasher before heading over to Karliah. "Remember to make it kid friendly, Karly."

What was with this woman and hitting her hand?
Still, Karliah headed over the computer and started her search while little feet rushed up the stairs. Then of course there was the familiar voice right over her shoulder and she looked up with an arched brow. Remember to make it kid friendly? Really? "Oh darn, and here I was going to pick Lights Out for us to watch." She deadpanned.
Karliah got back to searching. Kids liked animated stuff right? There was enough of that out. "How about Finding Dory? That or The Secret Life of Pets. Those are both for kids. Or we could go see the new Star Trek." personally she'd rather view option 3.
