Today was the day she had to get out of the apartment and get some sun. Lila forced herself to stay inside the past three days to hammer out some articles that would pay the bills. Going through the tempest of her mind to pull some words out was the writer's bane as she went through a blight of writer's block.
Today was the day to skate.
She was close enough to The Cove that she could just skate to the park that she had come to love. She had friends there, mostly guys that she skated with and hung out with and she was looking forward to seeing them at the park. The morning was crisp as she headed out on her park board, knee pads, wrist guards and helmet on her head, happy to hit the bowl again and just work on her form. She always felt like she lost a little edge when she didn't skate for more then one day and she had a feeling a couple of falls were coming her way. After hitting the bowl for a few hours, she would head down to the beach near the pier and just gaze out over the ocean to clear her mind.
Traffic was thick on the highway that ran parallel to the park and she could already see the homeless out on the corners looking for handouts. She was going too fast on her board for them to hit her up and in a way, she was happy about that. She didn't carry cash on her and what little extra she did have, she usually spent on herself anyways. She wasn't too good at saving so every little bit counted.
When she finally reached the park, it was already open and there were already a few gathered, looking to start their day at the ramps. All she did was just join and wait her turn. She started slow, taking a few turns inside the bowl before heading to the trick shots. She didn't consider herself an expert by any stretch and she was still nursing a hurt knee from a few weeks back after a fall, but it wasn't anything that could hold her back from enjoying the feeling of gliding across concrete on four wheels.
