THE BASICS
AGE: Twenty-seven
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Homosexual
POSITION: Famous Actress♦ THE FREEFORM ♦AND THIS IS HOW IT STARTS...The first role I received was lackluster; it was a English television show and I portrayed a small, recurring character. At the time I was twenty-three and freshly out of drama school. My mind was set to be on stage, not in front of a camera. When I came onto the set, it was for a paycheck. I had never expected it to come to anything.
I don't believe the producers realized how popular a lesbian character could be. They asked me to stay on board for another full year. It hadn't seemed like much, but it gained more attention than anyone anticipated. At least, given the situation. By no means was the show making headlines."For her first real role, she was like a tidal wave. I don't think she realized her own talent, but I saw it."I NEVER FOUND LOVE IN THE CITYThis place is nothing like England. Some try to see the similarities, but I can't see it. Nothing compares to London, but this is were the industry is. So I moved, and here I am. It was the right decision, given where my career has taken me. I'm aware that I could not have been as successful back home."Moving to the states was the best choice she could have made. Britain would have never given her these opportunities, and now look where she is."THIS CONVERSATION'S NOT ABOUT RECIPROCATIONThe first job I was offered here, I declined. My agent was shocked - it was a role that offered the perfect opportunity, she had explained. I suppose I was lucky in England, because every role offered to me here involved a heterosexual love interest. It wasn't something I had been willing to accept. I had fired my agent and found someone more fitted and dedicated to working with my requirement. Things progressed from there.
Why? I believe you should be asking why not. Representation in film is hardly accurate. I refused to feed the system when there was a solution right in front of us. There will always be those that fight my approach, but there are a collection of awards proving I'm doing something people want to see happening in the industry. By no means was it easy to get here, but I do not regret the path I've taken to do so."I've watched her deny roles that even suggest she is heterosexual. Almost anyone else would have crumbled under the opportunity to rise. Yet she succeeded."SHE HAD A FACE STRAIGHT OUTTA MAGAZINEMy sexuality never grows old with interviews, it seems. It's as if nobody can truly wrap their mind around the concept, or they believe I will somehow change my mind. It's not a decision. It's my life. It's exhausting to hear we've apparently won the battle, but the fact that everyone is still asking me about my life like it's a scandal is proof that we haven't."I've been cut short my interview, and I know I'm not the first to have been by her."THEY'RE JUST GIRLS BREAKING HEARTSSeeing anyone? I was under the impression that this interview about this film rather than my personal life."For someone so under the spotlight, we know so little about her personal life."
