There was always something Tony could count on for the new school year: returners and recruits. Originally he'd become the coach just to watch out for his sister. But now? Now he actually cared about the team. It had been decent when he got there, but now it was actually good.
He planned on keeping it that way.
"Alright ladies. Welcome to the team.." The first day was always interesting. Mainly because he got to meet all the new recruits. "I'm your coach, Tony Marco. Call me Coach or Coach Marco." He looked them over quickly. "It's always good to see new faces and familiar ones. Now the veterans of the team will tell you: I'm not one for speeches. So everyone go around and introduce yourself, and the. We'll get to actually playing some ball."

This was shit. So very very shit. What did Scarlet care for basketball? Yay, let's bounce a rubber ball around. Who needs that? Plus they had to wear this stupid uniform. Who in their right mind would chose these colours.
She stood with her arms folded as the girls introduced themselves. Maybe I'll start smoking. That'd give that PR Pounce a heart attac-... Scarlet noticed that the other girls had turned to her and she gave a small sigh "I'm Scarlet M. Brady...nice to meet you all..." God she hated girls like this, the brain-dead blondes and the aggressive behemoths.
Well what did he have here? The look on the girl's face already told Tony everything; she wasn't here by choice. Probably one of those kids whose parents forced her into a sport. Basketball was just the one they happened to choose. Wonderful. But he'd dealt with those types of kids before.
He'd deal with this one too.
Once the girls were down he clapped his hands. "Alright! Varsity girls, take half the court and split into teams. You'll be playing a game for practice. I trust you know what you're doing well enough." He snapped his fingers and pointed, and the girls were off. Which left him with the new kids.
"The rest of you are stuck with me. We're going to be going over the basics just so I know what you can do." He was already heading over to the ball basket and tossing some to them. "First off: dribbling. Go from one side of the court to the other."

Scarlet was now staring the coach done, daring him to make a comment about her enthusiasm levels. But no he didn't give her a chance to spit a particular venomous comment at him, the prick. She raised an eyebrow as he set most of the group away to play. There wasn't many new girls, leaving her very exposed.
Catching the ball Scarlet gave a glare towards the coach before quietly dribbling it across the court and back. Her dribbling was slightly clumsy but she was mostly in control. Now this was a waste of time. If you couldn't dribble what point was there for you to be. As if to put emphasis on her point one of the new girls managed to drop her ball.
As she stood waiting for the other girls, Scarlet glanced over the coach again. He looked liked the kind of guy who'd try to be 'down with the kids' and fail spectacularly. When will this end.
Was this girl trying to stare him down? That was almost laughable. As if all her little glares and stares would actually affect him at all. He just watched all the girls try their hands at dribbling down and back. One girl wasn't so lucky. She looked a like embarassed, but it was understandable. He waved it off when she looked up.
"That's alright. Try again. Use a little more force to bounce the ball, and keep your eyes on it for now." Already he could tell they'd need a lot of work. Although the brat girl actually did decent going down and back. Maybe she had redeemable qualities after all. Would certainly make for a change. "All of you do it again."

And again Scarlet dribbled the ball up and down the court, going at fair pace but not putting much effort into it. After she had down it a couple of times, Scarlet stood waiting for the others and the coach. Her eyes lingered on the hoop and a desire to chuck her ball into the hoop surfaced. She quickly crushed that desire and went back to surveying the other girls.
The varsity girls were what Scarlet had expected from them. Blonde and sporty. Complete lack of character or rebellion. She turned her attention back to the coach. Well...he could be worse looking.
Oh would you look at that. Hardly any effort output.Tony had to smirk slightly. This girl was definitely going to be a nuisance. But her dealt with those before, so this time shouldn't be any different. Besides, she actually looked like she wanted to shoot some hoops from the eye she was giving the net.
But he had others to watch, so watch he did. There would need to be a lot of improvement for sure. But he could single that out after. "Alright, let's move along for now." He waved them over towards the foul line after picking up a ball himself.
"See this rectangle?" He pointed to the outline just under the hoop. "We're going to practice shooting, and you have to stay out of that, understand?" He looked at each of the girls, then turned back to the hoop. "Now the right way to shoot it to put one hand under the ball like this." His hand shifted into place." And the other one slightly to the side to stabilize it." Again, he moved his other hand into position.
"Then it's a simple routine of aim, jump, flick." In one fluid motion he shot the ball and in it went. He wanted over and retrieved it before moving out of the way. "Now practice some shots from outside the box, and retrieve your balls after you shoot. Also, don't get hit in the head." It was an afterthought with a smirk.

Whilst the coach was explaining the intricate and technical motions which entailed throwing a ball into a hoop, Scarlet was studying the way the Varsity girls were playing. Aggressively was the first word that came to mind. Scarlet doubting many of the girls around her could be aggressive enough but kept that to herself.
God his jokey comments are terrible. She stood quietly as the other girls attempted to shoot hoops. Then it was her turn. She loosely followed the instruction given by the coach before chucking it towards the hoop and having it bounce off the backboard. A frown fell across her face before she went to retrieve a ball. As she bent down to pick it up the next girl chucked her ball and managed to hit Scarlet.
She spun around and started towards the girl "Watch where you're throwing spaz." Most of the girls backed away, Scarlet had developed a slight reputation of being hot-head.
Perfect. A lone wolf and hothead. What a wonderful combination he had to work with. "Hey!" He called, voice carrying through the gym. Fortunately the varsity girl would know this wasn't for them.
"Scarlet, right?" He asked even though he knew the answer. "Let's have a chat." With theyone he gave, it wasn't really a suggestion. He nodded to the rest of them. "You girls keep playing. Scarlet, you're with me." With that he moved off to the side, because who knew where this conversation would go with her attitude.

Fuck. Scarlet had wanted to annoy the coach but didn't think he'd get all strict on her, although he did suit the dickwad look. She sighed as she followed the coach to the side and crossed her arms "What?" Scarlet couldn't be fucked with this today.
Flicking her eyes up, Scarlet studied the coach again. Yep, still looks like an ass. She cocked her head slightly "Did I do something wrong? Sorry. I know I get rather 'spirited' when it comes to sport." Her tone was dry and a touch sarcastic.
